Susan Crawford has proudly led the team at RecTec Industries for over 30 years. Her expertise in design, development and play education shines through in every project she undertakes. In fact, as a self-professed play enthusiast, you’re just as likely to find her zipping around the SPICA at RecTec’s latest park construction, as you are hard at work around a boardroom table (impeccably dressed, of course!) hammering out design details with her clients. With her extensive industry knowledge, her commitment to community engagement and her passion for healthy, active living, Susan strives to ensure RecTec Industries remains on the cutting edge of its field. She is a great inspiration to the RecTec staff, encouraging them to recognize the unique nature of each client’s needs and the privilege of creating lasting community legacies throughout the province.
Play Consultant (aka Sales Consultant)
Originally from Manitoba, Brad is our Sales Consultant for the BC Interior. With a Degree in Recreation, a background working with people with disabilities, and years of personal fitness training, Brad offers professional advice on designing inclusive, highly active playgrounds. Brad loves making a difference for BC’s children through recreation and says that experiencing the dedication of community staff and volunteers makes his work fun every step of the way. He cites Raft River Elementary in Clearwater as one of his favourite projects because of the drive the community had to build a play space to honour two late teachers. He enjoys reading, country music, and being outdoors, whether it’s mountain biking or camping with his wife and three boys.
Jeff has been helping schools, municipalities, cities and private developers plan and build playgrounds and recreation spaces for over 6 years. As a Play Consultant, Jeff partners with Landscape Architects from government and private practice to design unique recreation spaces that benefit child development, and improve children’s health, learning and social inclusion. Jeff comes from a lineage of playground specialists as his family has been supplying playground equipment in Alberta for over 30 years.
Kathleen is the Social Scientist on our Sales Team. Her 20-year career in the newspaper industry was a direct result of her love for meeting new people and hearing about their interesting stories. Kathleen gets excited about providing equipment for public parks as she strongly believes creating spaces for play and social interaction will lead to more connected communities and ultimately enhance the quality of life for everyone. You will soon want Kathleen as your new BFF as her loyalty, sincerity, and desire to do what’s right, will instantly win you over. While she may not agree with you all the time, she is devoted to every person and every project she is involved in. And then the next thing you know, you are agreeing with her! The Super Sociologist strikes again.
Kathy has become the indispensable assistant to the Sales Team. From resolving warranty issues, ordering parts, to preparing quotes and sales proposals, Kathy is prudent in getting the work done. She loves the variety RecTec has to offer and the design of the new Dufferin Park in Surrey is one of her favourites. As a transplant from the Far East (New Brunswick), Kathy came out west looking for a change. While she has been active her whole life, only recently she has taken up golf. Kathy may be quiet and always smiling in the office, on family game night, a calculated and aggressive Kathy emerges.
Diana is a valued member of our Sales Support Team. As a professional office administrator, Diana has over 25 years experience as the office “go-to-person”. During her stint as a private chef, Diana developed a passion for exotic food and wine from around the world. She demands a good bottle of white after the completion of every park, kidding of course..or are we? Diana is a new grandmother, and she is counting down the days she can take her new grandson to Diefenbaker Rotary Splash Park in Tsawwassen.
Greg is the one who guides RecTec projects from the point of sale through to installation. He also provides services after the park has been installed and completed. Put simply, when we need to know what’s happening with projects, parts, shipping, installation…. we ask Greg. After years of coordinating spray park installations, Greg has become the SME (subject matter expert). He’s the guy we go to before any equipment is purchased, to make sure it’s going to work on the site. Being a vegetarian runner, Greg’s our resident health nut (although he professes to a terminal weakness for ice cream and baked goods). And when he’s not out running or eating ice cream, he’s learning a new language, a new song or a little nugget of history.
Danielle plays an important role at RecTec by ensuring all is smooth after the project has been sold. As the support for after-sale services, she helps coordinate product shipments, provides customers with information on warranties, and facilitates the selection of replacement parts. Danielle is a meticulous problem solver and your go to for any products found to be missing, broken or damaged. “When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, must be the truth” she declares in her best Sherlock Holmes voice.
You might think that Danielle’s Degree in Criminology is a far cry from playground planning. In reality, her training helps us understand how important active outdoor play is for healthy child development. She also educates us on the many ways to reduce crime in playgrounds.
Dianne has her diploma in Financial Management from BCIT, and is working towards her certification as a Certified Professional Bookkeeper. She has been doing full-cycle accounting for over 10 years, in industries ranging from severe service isolation valves to interior design.
