Now that summer is finally here and everyone is out enjoying the local pools and beaches, it is a good time for a refresher on water safety. Drowning is the second leading cause of death for Canadian children. Most deaths of children aged 1 to 4 are in home pools.

• Put young children and weak swimmers in a life jacket when near water
• Ensure there is safety equipment near by when swimming
• Teach your children water safety rules
• Ensure there is a responsible adult to supervise
